Psychiatric Service Dogs
Psychiatric Service Dogs Welcomed Everywhere
Psychiatric Service Dogs (PSDs) qualify as ADA service dogs. PSDs are trained to assist people with mental health issues rather than physical disabilities.
The University of Florida approves the use of Psychiatric Service Dogs in the same capacity of other ADA service animals. The same rights and privileges granted to people who use service dogs and service miniature horses are extended to those using PSDs. PSDs are not emotional service animals.
PSDs provide invaluable support to individuals coping with mental illnesses such as:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Panic attacks
- Bipolar disorders
- Schizophrenia
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Agoraphobia
- Social phobias
